Matthew Lutz-Kinoy

b. 1984 (USA/France)

Based in Paris, American-born artist Matthew Lutz-Kinoy’s multidisciplinary practice spans large format painting, ceramics and performance.

As in his recent joint project with Natsuko Uchino, Keramikos at Taka Ishii Gallery, Lutz-Kinoy’s work draws frequently on collaboration. Examining histories of representation, from the Rococo to Orientalism to Abstract Expressionism, he poses provocative questions about what constitutes the inside and the outside of the arts; the social, and the self.

Notable exhibitions include The Flames – The Age of Ceramics, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (2021) and Rotting Wood, the Dripping Word, MoMA PS1 New York (2016).
