Antônio Poteiro

dates unknown (Portugal)

Antônio Poteiro, born António Batista de Souza, was a Portuguese-born Brazilian artist renowned for his ceramic sculptures and paintings. He immigrated to Brazil with his family at the age of one and settled in Goiânia, Goiás, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Poteiro began his artistic journey by creating utilitarian ceramics, masks, and puppets, which he sold in local markets. Encouraged by fellow artist Siron Franco, he transitioned to painting in 1972, developing a distinctive style characterised by vibrant colours and repetitive patterns.

His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, both in Brazil and internationally. Notably, he participated in Cuatro Pintores De Goiás in São Paulo, Brazil (1984).
