Frédéric Bruly Bouabré

Frédéric Bruly Bouabré was an Ivorian visionary writer and image-maker, whose manuscripts and illustrations of Bété folklore, traditions and culture led him on a prophetic mission to document the entire world. Bouabré’s voluminous output addressed human habits and desires, visual and social observations, and world problems and solutions – all within his elaborate and idiosyncratic postcard format. Series by the artist feature in the collections of Tate Modern (London), Museum of Modern Art (New York) and Centre Pompidou (Paris).
