Friedrich Nagler
1920-2009 (Germany)
Frederich Nagler was born in Vienna in 1920; after fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938, he settled in Hampshire, England.
Over the course of his life, self-taught Nagler produced thousands of works, including ceramics, carvings, and sculptures. Often depicting small heads, faces and figures, Nagler used everything from bone, ivory and clay to unconventional materials like bread to make his sculptures. His works were meticulously crafted and arranged, reflecting his commitment to detail and form.
Preferring to keep his creations private, Nagler's work was rarely exhibited during his lifetime. Posthumously, it has been showcased in several exhibitions, including Wunderkammer at Pallant House Gallery (2016) and A Personal Mythology at Hove Museum (2019)
