Peter Hand
Although formally trained, the sculptor and professor Peter Hand was never quite able to position his practice within the context of the wider art world. His off-kilter Jungian dioramas, made to reflect a private and personal dynamic, were painstakingly fabricated and shown to few; whereas his large-scale animal sculptures were prominently displayed and intended for family enjoyment. Hand’s interest in the hermaphrodite was profound, mythical and strange; yet the author’s written texts about these works pose far more questions than they answer.
