Maison Christian Dior

1905-1957 (FRANCE)

While he is best known for revolutionising women’s fashion, Christian Dior also ventured into the realm of fine art and design. Among his many creative endeavours, Dior commissioned a series of unique ceramic sculptures, including a bust created for a fashion défilé at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Part of a series inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo's iconic Four Seasons, Dior’s intention was to create four distinctive pieces, each drawing from Arcimboldo’s famous allegorical portraits and blending high fashion with classical art.

Dior's engagement with art, in both fashion and ceramics, underscored his wide-ranging artistic vision, blending elegance, creativity, and historical references in his designs. One of his busts can be found on a desk in the Louis XII salon at Château Gaillard in Amboise, France.
