Clarice Cliff
1899-1972 (ENGLAND)
Born in Staffordshire and beginning work in ‘The Potteries’ at just 13, Clarice Cliff was a British ceramic artist known for her distinctive Art Deco designs. She gained widespread recognition for her vibrant "Bizarre" ware, featuring bold colours and geometric patterns.
Cliff developed her ceramic practice at A.J. Wilkinson's pottery factory, where she created both decorative and functional pieces. Her work is characterised by its playful forms and stylised motifs, which quickly became popular in the 1930s and 1940s.
Today, Cliff’s work is part of numerous private collections as well as notable institutional ones, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (London) and The Met (New York).
